Turkish Smalti

Handmade medallions, both whole or handcut into smaller tesserae, made from float glass and mineral oxides. These mini pizze and tesserae are made in the Byzantine tradition of Ancient Smalti and are less glossy and colour saturated than modern Italian smalti.

They are more moody with distinct textural differences on all sides and colour striation and variegation more similar to Perdomo Mexican smalti.

They can be cut easily with hammer and hardie or with a good pair of wheeled nippers.

We recommend our SeaBell glass nippers that have expandable jaws.
